Bengaluru: Striving to be the first, the state government is working on a comprehensive policy that will look after the welfare of burn victims in the state.
If this policy is passed, Karnataka will be the first state in the country, to have such a policy.
The policy will include insurance, housing, rehabilitation, employment, pension and other welfare measures to help the burn victims. Sources say that the policy will come out during the November legislative session.
The State Health Department in co-operation with Vimochana (a NGO that works with burn victims) have formulated a draft policy to deal with the prevention and treatment of burns. The policy also looks forward to rehabilitate and empower female burn victims.
