State govt releases Rs 189 crore for development projects in rural area

Bengaluru: The state government on Thursday released Rs 189 crore for 189 rural Assembly constituencies to implement the Grama Vikasa Yojana.

Ahead of ZP, TP polls, Congress ministers launch development schemes-1Rural Development and Panchayat Raj minister H K Patil said that each Assemble constituency will get Ra 1 crore in 2015-16 to take up Grama Vikasa programmes. Five Gram Panchayats and 5,000 people are covered under each Assembly segment.

“In the first phase, 1000 gram panchayats will be covered by Gram Vikas Yojana. The decision to take up projects like roads, drainage and upgradation of mud roads will be taken after consulting MLAs of each constituency.

Patil further said that each gram panchayat will get Rs 0.75 crore, which will be utilised  to provide better facilities to the rural masses.

Chief minister Siddaramaiah has been asked to extend the Gram Vikas Yojana project from three years to five years. Government will be spending Rs 1,000 crores in three years of this project.
