State govt plans to control Cable mafia

Bengaluru: Here is good news for victims of Cable mafia. Home Minister G. Parameshwara has promised a probe into the cable mafia.

Answering a question from Puttanna of JD(S) in the Legislative Council during the Question Hour on the excess amount being collected by cable operators from the customers, Parameshwara said a legislation would be in place to regulate functioning of the cable network system in the state.

The monitoring committees constituted to enforce provisions of the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act, 1995 will be directed to protect consumers from paying above Rs. 130 plus tax notified by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on March 3, 2017 for 100 free to air channels, he said. “The 100 SD channels are to be mandatorily provided,” he said.
