Bengaluru: The state government is making elaborate plans to announce Belagavi, the border district of the state, as Karnataka’s second capital on December 19.

A JDS leader, who is privy to the developments, informed that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy is expected to make a grand announcement in this regard on December 19 inside the Suvarna Soudha, followed by an advertising blitz in the media next day.

“He has informed his decision to Congress CLP leader Siddaramaiah in this regard. There is some apprehension that this announcement has no backing of the law. It will merely be an announcement. But, it may help the JDS expand its footprint across North Karnataka,” he informed.
