Bengaluru: The State government has imposed Essential Services and Maintenance Act (ESMA) on police personnel for three days with effect from Thursday, June 1.

In an order issued by state government on Tuesday late night stated that essential service act under police law has been invoked with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, the police personnel of constabulary have been asked to put three days attendance in advance from the higher ranked officials, police sources said.
The move comes in after the police personnel refused to refrain from mass leave agitation on June 4.
With this, as per sources, the Constabulary may report to duty on June 4, but refrain from performing duty. Some say that they may even resort ‘black ribbon’ protest as their hands have now been tied.
With over 20,000 constabulary personnel having applied for leave on June 4, the state government is contemplating on pressing paramilitary forces into action.
The Essential Services Maintenance (ESMA) is an act of Parliament of India, which was established to ensure the delivery of certain services, which if obstructed would affect the normal life of the people.
