State government to regulate online gambling?

Bengaluru: After a relentless campaign on social media by like-minded people, the state government announced that it is considering regulating the online gambling industry which pushed hundreds of youths towards bankruptcy in the state.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj minister KS Eshwarappa announced this in a tweet. The tweet stated that the state government will consider the ills of Online Gambling and initiate further action.

According to activists, the online gambling industry used the lockdown period to promote their wares and people had become addicted. Many had launched an online campaign on social media to ban them saying it will make families bankrupt.

The minister was responding to this campaign.
