Bengaluru: The state government is likely to ban the sale of all kinds of gutka and pan masala completely in the state. An ordinance in this regard is expected in a couple of days.

According to sources in the know, a huge spike in the number of Oral cancer cases has spooked the state government into considering a blanket ban on the sale of these items and the health department has drafted an ordinance in this regard.

It is learned that Governor Vajubhai Vala had insisted on the state government ban these chewable addictive substances in July itself. However, a section of BJP leaders from areca nut growing areas was opposing the proposal.
