Bengaluru: Karnataka is one of the states in the country which is facing acute scarcity of doctors in the government hospitals. This in spite the state having more than one lakh registered doctors, said a report released by the Union Health Ministry.

Compared to the number of government hospitals, the number of doctors is very less. In an average, there is one doctor for every13,556 patients. This is more than the National doctor-patient average (11,082:1) of the country, the report concerned.

The National Health Report mentioned in the report that compared to South Indian states, the average of doctors and patients is very bad in the state. At least, for Karnataka, 80,000 doctors are enough for the 6 crore population. But, most of the doctors choose private jobs in spite of government health occupation.

In the state, the situation has become worst from past one year. The condition is not different in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chattisgarh.
