Bengaluru: The State Cabinet on Wednesday cleared a suburban railway project which will be implemented in two phases. The project is aimed at decongesting road traffic in and around Bengaluru and provide rail link to town around the city.
The estimated cost of the two-phase project is Rs. 10,929 crore. Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra said the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) have prepared the detailed project report.
During the recent visit of the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, Karnataka had signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Railways Ministry to set up a special purpose vehicle to implement the project.
In two phases, the rail link would be provided between Bengaluru-Mandya, Yeshwanthpur-Tumakuru, Yeshwanthpur-Yelahanka, Yelahanka-Byappanahalli, Yelahanka-Doddaballapur, Yelahanka-Chickballapur, Byappanahalli-Hosur, Bengaluru-Bangarpet, Sondevanahalli-Kunigal.
