Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said that a follow-up meeting of the Consultative Committee will be held on January 25 to finalise a candidate for the post of the Karnataka Lokayukta.
 
His decision comes after the Opposition parties have expressed differences over the selection of the candidate.

During the last meeting of the panel, Siddaramaiah and Legislative Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa backed the candidature of Chairman of the Karnataka Law Commission S.R. Nayak, while acting Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Subhro Kamal Mukherjee, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar, his counterpart in the Council K.S. Eshwarappa, and Council Chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy supported the candidature of Justice Vikramjit Sen.

Siddaramaiah, speaking to media persons said that the decision on another meeting was taken to avoid lapses and to ensure transparency.

Sources from the government said that it has decided to go in favour of Nayak as Sen had recently opted out of the race.
