Bengaluru: The Bengaluru City Police is all set to start “Operation Safe Ride”, a special drive against half-helmets from February 1. The department has strictly ordered even the police not to wear half-helmets.

During the special ride, police will impose fines on riders wearing half helmets or helmets without ISI and BIS mark. Interestingly most of the police personnel in the city wear half helmets. In light of this, the first warning has been given to them. During the bike ride, whether it is their own or the department vehicle, the police cannot wear cheaper or poor quality helmets.

“The department is not giving helmets to police personnel. They have to purchase it. The law is the same for everyone. So, we have directed them to wear ISI and BIS marked helmets”, said the Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic). The commissioner added that it would be checked first whether any police person is riding with a half helmet. If so, a fine will be imposed without a doubt.
