Bengaluru: The Ashok Nagar police are on the lookout for a software engineer who allegedly duped over 15 job aspirants. The accused, Uma Mageshwaran, was formerly employed with Experis IT Private Limited.

According to the police, he conducted interviews online, shortlisted 15 candidates, and asked a security deposit of anywhere between Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1.5 lakh. He issued fake offer letters bearing the letterhead of the firm.

The scam came to light when the selected candidates turned up for work with ‘offer letters’ in hand. After examining the letters and questioning the candidates, the management realised that they had been duped by Uma Mageshwaran. According to the police, the management had a hard time convincing the candidates that the letters were fake and that they had been duped. They tried to contact Mageshwaran, but he was not reachable.

The company later filed a complaint with the police who are following the money trail to see if they can track him down.
