Bengaluru: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday said social media, which connects people online, has helped Prime Minister Narendra Modi win more elections for BJP in recent times, including Uttar Pradesh elections.

“Social media has contributed Modi win more elections (including Uttar Pradesh elections) for BJP in recent times. Moreover, his strength is that he is in direct link with people,” Prabhu said at FKCCI conclave on ‘Democracy, Good Governance and Social Media’ here.

This was also the reason for him winning Gujarat elections for third time and made bureaucracy more accountable, he added. Prabhu also said social media acts an insurance for people, who were losing faith in democracy and is a great tool for constructive purposes.

Social media also gave fillip to Modi politics which has paved the way for second wave of politics in India, he added. The power of social media was evident in Railways when complaints are now being answered on real time basis.
