Bengaluru: In a bid to clamp bottlenecks at intersections, the city traffic police are mulling an idea of imposing ban on slow moving vehicles on flyovers across Central Business District (CBD).

According to an internal survey conducted by the police department, slow moving vehicles are at core in creating traffic havoc at intersections, especially near the flyover. Slow moving vehicles such as goods autos and trucks are likely to be banned from using the flyovers shortly if the recommendations of the report are implemented.
Flyovers fall under CBD like Richmond road flyover, Mysore road flyover, Old airport flyover, Frazer town flyover and Hebbal flyover are in the pipeline to go for such regulations.
It can be recalled that police department had experimented several ideas to ease traffic on the flyover but have only met failure. Separate lanes for BMTC buses and auto rickshaws and cycle lanes are some of such initiatives.
According to data available with transport department, nearly 1.6 crore vehicles ply on state roads and out of this 60 lac vehicles ply on Bengaluru roads alone.
Over 40 lac vehicles in the city are two wheelers, over 10 lac vehicles are goods and passenger vehicles including auto-rickshaws.
