Bangalore :The father of a sixth standard student of a government higher primary school at Anugondanahalli, Kondappa, filed a complaint with the jurisdictional Block Education Officer near Hoskote that his son is now ‘partially deaf’ after his teacher slapped him on Thursday for misbehaving in class.
An enquiry was initiated against the teacher, Premavathy, under the Right to Education (RTE) Act by Bylanjinappa, the jurisdictional Block Education Officer (BEO).
The incident came to light when the boy returned home and complained about pain in his ear. His father immediately took him to the government hospital in Whitefield.
Mr. Kondappa in his complaint, alleged that Ms. Premavathy was targeting Gagan unnecessarily. “Someone had scribbled her daughter’s name on the compound wall around 15 days ago. She thinks Gagan is the culprit and has been targeting him even since,” he maintained.
Mr. Bylanjinappa visited the school on Saturday to record the statements of the teacher and headmistress. He also met members of the School Development Monitoring Committee and Mr. Kondappa.
Reports suggest that Gagan was slapped by Ms. Premavathy on August 14 for not paying attention in class. Later, the teacher made him stand outside the classroom and run in the playground as punishment. It is learnt that teacher admitted to slapping him which is a violation of the RTE act. Consequently the education authorities have booked a case against her.
A detailed report is expected to be submitted to the Deputy Director, Public Instruction for further action.
