Six more test positive for COVID-19 in Karnataka, total rises to 33

Bengaluru: The Department of Health and Family Welfare Sevices, Government of Karnataka, on Monday, March 23, announced that the number of coronavirus positive cases in Karnataka has risen to 33.

As per a media bulletin released by the department, “Till date 33 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state which includes one death.”

The bulletin informs that 31 “COVID-19 positive patients are in isolation at designated hospitals and are stable”.

Details of the new cases, as specified in the bulletin, are as follows:

Patient 27 is a 46-year-old man, a resident of Kerala who recently travelled to Dubai. He arrived in Bengaluru on March 22 and is being isolated and treated in Mysuru. The bulletin adds that three “high risk primary contacts” and four “secondary contacts” have been traced and have been put under house quarantine.

Patient 28 is a 38-year-old resident of Bengaluru who travelled to Dubai and arrived in India on March 17. He has been isolated at a designated hospital in Bengaluru.

Patient 29 is a 41-year-old Bengaluru resident, who arrived in India on March 13 after passing through London. He has been isolated at a designated hospital in Bengaluru.

Patient 30 is a 30-year-old resident of Bengaluru. She is the wife of Patient 17. She has been isolated at a designated hospital in the city.

Patient 31 is a 24-year-old resident of Bengaluru. He has a history of travel to the UK and Dubai. He arrived in Bengaluru on March 18 and has been isolated at a designated hospital in the city.

Patient 32 is a 60-year-old Bengaluru resident. He has a history of travel to Germany and arrived in the city onMarch 17. He has been placed under isolation at a designated hospital in Bengaluru.

Patient 33 is a 22-year-old Kannur resident with a history of travel to Dubai. He arrived in Bengaluru on March 22. He has been placed under isolation ar a designated hospital in Bengaluru city.

As it stands, there are 23 COVID-19 positive cases in Bengaluru, three in Kalaburagi, two each in Chikkaballapura and Mysuru, and one each in Dharwad, Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada.

The department informed that contact tracing has begun in all the cases.

Till date, 1,27,902 passengers have been screened in Karnataka.

‘Those who were in contact with Kerala COVID-19 positive patient to self report’

According to the bulletin, a 54-year-old person from Kasaragod, Kerala is confirmed to be COVID-19 positive. He landed at the Mangaluru International Airport on March 10 at 5.30 PM by an Air India Express flight. From there, he proceeded in his own vehicle (KL 14 3246) to Kasaragod. He had coffee near Kasaragod and reached home at 7.30 PM. On March 11, he had visited a local fish market and returned home at 10 PM.

The bulletin adds that the man consulted a local doctor in Kasaragod on March 18, following which he visited the Kasturba Medical College in Attavar at 3 PM, where he visited the reception and consulted a doctor.

He is said to have had tea at the KMC canteen and travelled in an auto to Medicity and brought medicines. He returned to Kasaragod by a KSRTC bus.

The man once again travelled to Mangaluru on March 20 in a private vehicle and visited the doctor, following which he returned to Kasargod in a private vehicle.

The department has requested passengers, who travelled in the aforementioned flight/aircraft and KSRTC bus, to self report by dialling 104 or other helpline numbers.
