Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday wrote a letter to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa condemning attacks on Kannada speaking people in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking with media persons, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said some miscreants have attacked Kannadigas in Tamil Nadu in the backdrop of Cauvery water dispute. “I condemn the violence against Kannadigas in Tamil Nadu. I came to know vehicles bearing Karnataka registration numbers were damaged and the properties, especially hotels, belonging to Kannadigas in Tamil Nadu have been damaged. I want Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to take measures for the safety of Kannadigas in Tamil Nadu. I will speak to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh if the situation demands it,’’ the chief minister said.
He said the Karnataka State Chief Secretary and Director General of Police have spoken with Tamil Nadu counterparts on the safety of Kannadigas in Tamil Nadu.
It may be recalled that politicians in Tamil Nadu had condemned the attack on a Tamil youth in Bengaluru for making derogatory remarks against Kannada film actors who participated in the recent Karnataka bandh.
According to reliable sources, some pro-Kannada organisations have staged protest on Hosur Road, Domlur, Shanthinagar and other areas condemning Tamilians attacking Kannadigas and vehicles bearing Karnataka registration numbers in Tamil Nadu.
