Bengaluru: Former chief minister and CLP leader Siddaramaiah derided the Centre’s decision to allocate Rs 669 crores of the NDRF’s funds to the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa-led government for the flood-hit areas of the state.

In a series of tweets posted through his official account, Siddaramaiah ridiculed the BJP state government for spreading misinformation about the amount of funds released by the Centre. He said, “Reports from the state government officials tells that only Rs 669 Cr of addl funds are released in 2nd installment as opposed to the claim of Rs 1870 cr by Karnataka BJP leaders. At a time when manufacturing industries are closing, BJP’s fake news factory is running at full potential [sic]”.

“Moved by the plea of Chief Minister Yediyurappa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released an additional Rs 669.85 crore, taking the total amount to Rs 1,869.85 crore. BJP leaders, who are devotees of the god of lies, attempts to depict the total relief amount as 1200+1869.85 = Rs 3,069 cr is ridiculous,” he added.

It can be recalled that CM Yediyurappa had said that Rs 1,869 crores was released by the Centre besides the Rs 1,200 crores of funds released earlier. He had stated, “They are releasing the relief amount in phases. PM Modi has taken this decision as soon as he returned from Karnataka.”

However, state government officials clarified on Tuesday, January 7, that the actual additional funding received from the Centre is only Rs 699 crores.

Karnataka BJP responds to Siddaramaiah’s allegations

After Siddaramaiah alleged that the Yediyurappa-led government was falsely claiming that they had received an additional amount of Rs 1,870 crores for flood-relief, the Karnataka unit of the BJP hit back at the Congress leader with a series of sarcastic tweets.

The official @BJP4Karnataka Twitter handle wrote, “Ayyo @siddaramaiah Avare, We surrender to you as we are incapable of running Fake News Factory like You or @INCIndia. We believe in speaking the Truth like Gandhiji, not spreading lies like Goebbels.

“Kannadigas still remember the “Lies Bhagya” you gave them as CM from 2013-18″, the tweet further said.
