Shiradi: The concretization work Bengaluru-Mangaluru National Highway at Shiradi Ghat would finish by April end, much earlier the expectation.
In the second phase, a 12.38-kilometer road will be concretized, from 250.62 km to 263 km with a cost of Rs.74 crores. All attempts are made to complete the work before the deadline given by the government (August 1), said Ocean Construction Private Limited Engineer Sharfuddin. Vehicle movement has been banned on this route since January 12.
In the left side, granule sub-base and in the right side, laying of dry lean concrete (DLC) works are being done. German machines have been pressed in and did to this the workers are able to complete 700 mts of pavement quality work. Usually, Shiradi Ghat area receives rains for 6 months a year. So, special technology is being used in the construction of concrete roads, said National Highway Authority of India Superintendent Engineer Raghavan.
Geo textile is put above the mud so that it should not touch the concrete road. For every 25-meter distance, there will be a ‘Cross filter drainage’ for the flow of water. The thickness of the road is around 600 mm and 74 drains have been constructed already. Extension of three small brides is going on. Hard sand is being used wherever the roads look smooth, he explained.
Shiradi Rasthe Ulisi Horata Samiti President Sanjit Shetty also expressed satisfaction about the speed and quality of work which is being done at Shiradi. He said blockage of Shiradi route causes around Rs.50 crore loss per day.
