Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed Shivajinagar police to submit a report on why they have not complied with its September 1 order for shifting cattle, allegedly kept illegally, to shelters by providing protection to members of Gau Gyan Foundation, an non-governmental organisation.

Justice Aravind Kumar issued the direction after the two advocates, who were appointed as court commissioners to oversee the shifting of cattle, submitted a report stating that the police, citing possibility of creating tension, declined to give protection to them [advocates] when they wanted to visit a particular locality where the cattle were kept illegally.

The court was hearing a petition filed by the Foundation, which had complained that Shivajinagar police had not implemented the August 30 order of a magistrate court to investigate its complaint against two individuals for illegally keeping cattle under inhuman conditions for the purpose of slaughter.
