Sexual assault case: Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami arrested, freed

Bengaluru: The CID officials on Friday arrested the seer of Sri Ramachandrapura Math, Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami, who is facing two charges of sexual assault. However, he was immediately released as he had already been granted anticipatory bail.

Raghaveshwara Bharathi rape case: Victim blames police-1The sleuths said that the arrest was made in connection with the one-year-old rape case filed by Ram Katha singer Premalatha in August 2014.

It is said that the CID officials, who are all set to file the chargesheet in this case, was advised by the legal experts to follow certain procedures before filing the chargesheet. Accordingly, CID sleuths had summoned the seer to appear before them as part of the probe, arrested and released him after the anticipatory bail conditions were fulfilled, sources said.

“The seer came along with his advocate. The team led by SP Siri Gowri, which is probing the case, arrested him as a formality. The advocate produced the order copy of the anticipatory bail and fulfilled the bail conditions. Later, he was released,” an official said.

In connection with the second rape case filed against the seer recently by a Yakshagana artist, DGP of CID, H.C. Kishore Chandra, told sources that CID had not received the order copy from the government on transferring the case to the CID.
