Setback for Seer accused of raping devotee; court orders probe

Bangalore: The high court, on Thursday vacated the stay on swami of Ramachandrapura Matt, Sri Raghaveshwara Bharati’s s arrest. It has ordered probe against Swamiji in connection with a case of alleged sexual harassment. The victim had alleged that “she was raped by the seer many times since 2010.”

The seer’s counsel termed the complaint as “false” and contended that “efforts were being made to tarnish the image of the matt and the seer”.

Following a complaint lodged by Anshumathi Shastri, the daughter of Diwakara Shastry and Premalatha, residents of Banashankari in Bangalore, the police registered a case against the seer and others under IPC Sections 354A (sexual harassment) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
