Bengaluru: Following the Central Government’s circular on guidelines on fair trade practices in hotels, the State government has decided to convene a meeting of hoteliers to discuss ways to end the practice of levying service charge.
Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U.T. Khader told reporters on Tuesday that steps have been taken following the Centre’s guidelines. However, clarifying that the government cannot interfere in a matter of trade practice between private parties, he suggested that people approach the consumer forum, a quasi-judicial body, to deal with it.
To meet the promise made in the State Budget, the government has decided to provide LPG connections to BPL families who are not eligible under the Centre’s Ujjwala scheme.
“The scheme will be launched soon by the Chief Minister,” the minister said, adding that those who get connections under Ujjwala will be given a burner of Rs. 1,000.
