Security beefed up at Public Places in Southern Stations

Bangalore: The passengers’ at all major railway stations in the Bangalore as well as in Chennai were in for some inconvenience due to a sudden heavy deployment of uniformed personnel.  However, the inconvenience would perhaps ensure their safety.

A low-intensity bomb had exploded in two different compartments of the Bangalore-Guwahati Express stationed at Chennai killing a young girl, native of Guntur and injuring 9 others. After the twin blast the railway police have beefed up security at the railway station both in Bangalore and Chennai apart from other important stations as well.

Superintendent of police at Secunderabad Railway Police, S Chandrasekhar Reddy said that over 100 personnel of Railway Protection Force, Government Railway Police, bomb disposal squads, anti-sabotage teams and dog squads were carrying out the checking and search operations.

Police personnel are manually checking the baggage, but they were not able to check all of them. On the contrary, constables manning the entrances, pointed out that the machines failed every now and then due to possible overloading.

On the other hand Superintendents of Police and Commissioners of Police have been directed to ensure foolproof security at public places, bus stands, railway stations, malls, airports, vital installations and iconic structures, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) M N Reddi said, after taking stock of security measures at the Bangalore City and Yeshwantpur stations.

Around 40 men are deployed at the Yeshwantpur station alone with additional men deployed at various railway stations around the State.
