Second phase of Indira Canteens open

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Monday inaugurated the second phase of Indira Canteens, which dole out food to concessional rates to the masses. First of the 50 such canteens was inaugurated near KR Market of Dharmarayaswamy Temple ward and remaining 49 wards will be opened during the day.

At KR Market, Chickpet MLA RV Devaraj and BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad inaugurated the canteen facility wherein breakfast will be offered at Rs 5 per plate while lunch and dinner cost Rs 10.

The MLA said he would appeal to the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to increase the number of plates per session at KR Market canteen to 1000 as against the 300 to 500 plates per session in canteens of other wards. “KR Market is a major transport hub and lakhs of people come here every day. We have to cater to the demand,” he added.

It can be noted here that first phase of 101 Indira Canteens were opened on August 16. The BBMP aims to open another set of canteens in remaining 47 wards on November 1 this year.
