Bengaluru: The special court judge Ashwath Narayana on Wednesday sent V K Sashikala Natarajan and two others to Parappana Agrahara prison in connection with disproportionate assets (DA) case. Judge Ashwath Narayana has also declined to give any special treatment, including home-made food, to Sashikala Natarajan despite her plea for home-made food since she was suffering from blood sugar and other ailments.
According to reliable sources, Judge Ashwath Narayana told Sashikala to have same food that is being served to all other prisoners. “While other prisoners did not suffer from health problems by consuming the food served at the prison, why would you need home-made food?’’ Judge Ashwath Narayana said.
It may be noted that Sashikala demanded some facilities such as permission to have home-made food, 24-hour running hot water, mineral water for drinking, western type commode, separate cell with a cot and TV. However, Judge Ashwath Narayana directed the prison authorities to treat Sashikala as a common prisoner and provide facilities on par with common prisoners. The prison authorities have allotted the prisoner number 9234 to Sashikala, 9235 for Ilavarasi and 9236 for Sudhakaran. Sashikala and Ilavarasi lodged at the women’s barrack while Sudhakaran in men’s barrack.
The sources said the prison authorities would provide three sarees, one plate, one mug, one tumbler, one bowl, one blanket and one pillow. Jail authorities would decide the nature of work to be allotted to Sashikala and others on Sunday. The sources said Sashikala may be asked to work at weaving section or make candles or incense sticks. She may get Rs 50 per day and monthly coupons for shopping in the prison store.
The convoy of Sashikala arrived at Parappana Agrahara prison at 5.05 pm. The convoy consisted with 11 vehicles was attacked by late Jayalalithaa’s supporters. Five Scorpio vehicles and one Innova vehicle were damaged during the attack. The supporters of late Jayalalithaa were seen shouting slogans against Sashikala and they even called her a traitor and 420 Sashikala. Police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the agitators. Supporters of Jayalalithaa began gathering near Parappana Agrahara prison from 10 am despite police imposing prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Indian Penal Code.
Supreme Court denies extra time for Sashikala
The AIADMK General Secretary, who was locked in a week-long bitter battle with caretaker chief minister O Panneerselvam for chief minister’s post, asked for more time to surrender, however, the Supreme Court rejected her appeal. “You know the meaning of the word immediately?” the Supreme Court judge told Sasikala’s counsel who desperately tried to convince the top court.
