Bengaluru: The Bangalore University (Nagarabhavi) witnessed a tense situation on Monday, May 6, with a group of students allegedly installing the statue of Buddha in the place of Goddess Saraswathi. DCP Ravi Channannavar visited the campus and held an investigation.
According to the sources, a statue of Goddess Saraswathi was installed at the entrance of the university at the time of university inauguration. Now VC KR Venugopal wanted to install a new one. He had ordered a new statue. To install the new statue, the old statue was removed from the place.
But all of a sudden a group of students installed the statue of Lord Buddha in the same place triggering tension.
“On Monday, some unknown persons installed the statue of Buddha which has now led to a controversy,” said a university officer.
When the university staff tried to remove the Buddha statue, a section of students held a protest. Later police arrived at the spot and dispersed the agitators.
