Bengaluru: If the talks in the power corridor is to be believed then Minister for Law Sadananda Gowda may be dropped from the Modi cabinet in the rejig likely to take place in first week of July.

It is said that government has already gauged Gowda’s work as below par and hence there are possibilities of him being dropped from the cabinet and getting post of BJP National Vice-President or he would be given a Minister of State to help him gear up.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet his council of ministers on Thursday, June 30 to review the performance before he takes a call on change of key ministries.

In the meeting this afternoon, ministers are expected to make presentations on work done in the two years since the BJP-led government came to power.

It is said that PM Modi and BJP Chief Amit Shah has met on Wednesday evening and held discussions for over five hours on the same lines.

Ministers of State Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan may be promoted to cabinet rank. Mr Goyal’s shift to a more high profile ministry has been speculated upon for months, reported NDTV.

A few vacancies are likely to be filled. Sarabananda Sonowal moved to Chief Minister of Assam; Raosaheb Patil Danve resigned after he was appointed president of the BJP in Maharashtra. Junior ministers are to be added for states headed soon for elections like Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

The cabinet cannot exceed 83 ministers; currently, it has 66 members including PM Modi. A dozen cabinet ministers are from Uttar Pradesh, which votes next year. The result from India’s most populous state will be used to measure the likely result of the next general election in 2019.
