Bengaluru: With Vikramjit Sen, former Supreme Court judge, withdrawing his consent to be the Karnataka Lokayukta, the chances of chairman of the Karnataka Law Commission, S.R. Nayak becoming the head of the anti-graft body seems bright.

If the sources are to be believed then the inclination of the government to send the name of Justice Nayak to Governor for the post of the Lokayukta seems to be the main reason behind Justice Sen withdrawing his consent.
A section of people had argued that ‘insiders’ like N Venkatachala and Justice Santhosh Hegde had made a difference while in office and hence an ‘insider’ must be opted over an ‘outsider’.
However, the opposition leader Jagadish Shettar, coming down heavily on the state government had said that it has insulted Justice Sen.
Opposition has backed appointment of Justice Sen pointing out controversy surrounding Justice Nayak’s property.
The post of Lokayukta remained vacant following the resignation of Y. Bhaskar Rao.
