Bengaluru: In a surprise move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will field two unknown faces for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
According to a decision taken by the party’s parliamentary committee, Eranna Kadadi and Ashok Gasti will be the party candidates for the RS polls from the state.
It can be recalled that the dates for the elections have been fixed on June 19 and four seats from the state will be going to the polls.
Eranna Kadadi served in the BJP’s Belagavi unit as the district president. He was also once a Member of the Legislative Council. Ashok Gasti is a party leader who served in the BJP’s Ballari unit as the state in-charge.
Earlier, the BJP’s state core committee had recommended the names of bigwigs like Prabhakar Kore, Ramesh Katti, Prakash Shetty etc. It was also speculated that Tejaswini Ananth Kumar or Infosys Foundation chairperson Sudha Murty would be the party’s surprise candidates.
