Bengaluru: Bengaluru Urban district administration on Thursday recovered 354 acres of prime land at Srigandhadakaval and surrounding areas near Sunkadakatte in north Bengaluru. V Shankar, Deputy Commissioner, Bengaluru (Urban), said the land is worth nearly Rs 2,000 crore.
The land was in possession of Chamanlal Bajaj Seva Trust. The trust had bought 374 acres of land at Srigandhadakaval, Herohalli and Giddadakonenahalli in the early 1960s. However, the land-holding was subject to the Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act in 1976. In 2010, the land tribunal passed an order that the trust could be granted only 20 units of land (one unit is one acre) and the rest was excess land.
The trust challenged this order in the High Court, which asked the tribunal to reconsider its order. This process was repeated twice, and during the third time, the tribunal upheld the 2010 order, on November 28.
