Bengaluru: A consumer court has slapped a fine of Rs 12,000 on the owner of an outlet for charging more than the MRP for bottled drinking water in Bengaluru.
K P Raghavendra from Cottonpet had dragged the outlet owner to consumer court for charging Rs 40 for one litre water instead of its MRP of Rs 19 on December 5, 2015.
The third additional Bangalore Urban District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum which heard the petition of unfair trade practice asked the owner to pay a compensation of Rs 12,000 including a nominal litigation fee to the customer.
Earlier Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader had cracked whip on several malls and multiplexes selling bottled drinking water at exorbitant rates.
