Bengaluru: Congress leader and former chief minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday, September 2, visited DJ Halli and KG Halli, the sites of violence that took place mid last month. He was accompanied by Shivaji Nagar MLA Rizwan Arshad and other Congress members.
During his visit, Siddaramaiah interacted with locals to get to the reason behind the violence that resulted in the death of four people.
Later, in a series of tweets, the Opposition leader condemned the violence and called for all those who were involved to be punished. “… This could have been averted if police had taken swift action against Naveen,” he added.
“I was undergoing treatment for #COVID-19 when DJ Halli incident happened and I have come now to visit the spot after completing quarantine norms,” he wrote.
He further demanded that the police gather evidence and pursue the case and release those against whom there is no evidence. “…Innocents should not be framed and at the same time real culprits should not be let off,” he added.
Many are arrested for orchestrating violence in the DJ Halli. Police should gather evidence and pursue the case. Release those people against whom there is no evidence. Innocents should not be framed and at the same time real culprits should not be let off.

It can be recalled that after the violence that broke out on August 11 that resulted in the deaths of four people (three of whom died in the police firing and one who died later owing t health complications), over 300 people were arrested. The police invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and claimed that many of those in custody were linked to the Church Street (2014) and Malleshwaram (2013) bomb blast cases.
Among those arrested are the husband a Congress corporator and some members of the SDPI (Social Democratic Party of India).
