Bengaluru: In a democratic set-up, regulating media is not a right and healthy option, opined BJP MLA and former state law minister Suresh Kumar.
Reacting on the formation of a 13-member Joint House Committee headed by Health and Family Welfare Minister K R Ramesh Kumar to study the good and bad impact of print and electronic media and the ways to regulate them, Suresh Kumar urged the Assembly Speaker to reconsider the move and study the pros and cons on the impact before going ahead, a move considered by many to clip the wings of the media.
Going by the tradition, it is inappropriate for the legislature to form such a committee, where the public prosecutor becomes the complainant, who will take the decision based on recommendations and hence, there is a need to dig deep into the issue before proceeding further, Suresh Kumar suggested.
