Rector murder: Addl charge-sheet filed against seven including four priests

Bengaluru: Additional charge-sheets have been filed against four more priests of Bengaluru archdiocese and three others in connection to the murder case of Fr KJ Thomas.

It may be recalled that Fr Thomas (aged 65 then), Rector of St Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Malleswaram, was murdered on March 31, 2013.

Fathers I Anthappa, Chesara, A Thomas and Anbu John are named in the additional charge sheet filed on November 26 in the first Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.

The other three named as accused in the additional charge sheet are Editor of ‘Maathu Kathe’, a Kannada monthly Rita Rini, General Secretary of Akhila Karnataka Catholic Christara Kannada Sangha Raphael Raj and Vice President of the Sangha Anthony Prasad.

The accused have moved the Sessions Court seeking anticipatory bail, however the magistrate court has issued non-bailable warrants against them. According to sources, the police are yet to arrest the accused.

The police had filed the first charge sheet on June 17, 2014, which named Father Illyas, Father William Patrick and Peter. The three are now jailed in Parappana Agrahara prisons.

It is alleged that the accused chose March 31 as the d-day as it was Easter and that most priests in the seminary would be on leave.
