Channapattana :State Minister for Women and Child Welfare Umashree visited a minor girl from Gollaradoddi in the taluk who is a rape victim and has now delivered a baby.  Her family is now facing social boycott in their family.

The minister consoled the  girl and  told her to be strong and face the society boldly. The girl is in the Government Hospital here  and  the minister assured help from the Government and the district administration. She also deplored the practice of social boycott.

Later speaking to reporters, the minister said the officials would be directed to end such practices and  that all arrangements have been done for suitable treatment to the mother and child. She also assured justice to the girl.

It is said a  youth named Jagadish of Gollaradoddi had raped the 17 year old girl a few months ago. The incident was kept a closely guarded secret and came to light when the girl delivered a baby girl recently. As the Golla community has the practice of boycotting such families, they had followed suit even in this case.

The case however made much news following protest by women’s organisations.
