Bengaluru: Tense situation prevailed in Ramanagar city on Bengaluru-Mysuru road after the news of two prisoners of the district prison testing positive came out.
It may be recalled that several accused in the Padarayanapura riot were brought to Ramanagar jail and on Thursday night two if them were tested positive for COVID-19.
Close on the heels of this report, the panic-stricken prison staff held a protest against senior officials for bringing Bengaluru accused to the district.
It can be recalled that till Thursday evening no Covid-19 positive case was reported from Ramanagar district making it a green district.
According to the sources, prison staff alleged that they were against the very proposal of shifting the Padarayanapura accused into Ramanagar prison.
“There were no masks or hand sanitisers when these accused were brought to the prison,” they alleged.
Under pressure, the district administration supplied masks and hand sanitisers to the prison department staff in the mid night itself.
Meanwhile, former CM HD Kumaraswamy warned of an intense protest if these accused are not taken out of Ramanagar jail.
“There is no facility to treat the Covid 19 patients in Ramanagar. Decision to shift the accused to Ramanagar prison is a blunder,” he charged.
