Bengaluru: Historian and writer Ramachandra Guha had posted a picture of himself eating beef and soon after the post, he has alleged that he has been receiving threat calls.
Guha has informed the Bengaluru Police about the threats, but a formal complaint in this regard is yet to be filed. The Halasur Police have assigned two police constables outside his residence, after receiving intimation of the threats from DCP (Central) Chandragupta.
Ramachandra Guha had tweeted on Friday, stating “After a magical morning in Old Goa, we had lunch in Panaji, where — since it is a BJP-ruled state — I decided to eat beef in celebration.” and on Sunday he tweeted again regarding the matter, which said, “I have received threatening calls from a man calling himself Sanjay from Delhi. His number is +91-9……..8. He threatened my wife as well as me. This is for the record.”
RK Yadav, a former official of the Research and Analysis Wing, had tweeted, “If a Hindu eating beef and publicises it then he is stigma on this religion. One Ramchandra Guha is doing so. He is trying to tease whole of Hindus by this dastardly action of such publicity. Shd be given befitting reply.”
In a retweet to Yadav, Guha stated, “This threatening tweet below is from a former official of the Research and Analysis Wing. I would like to place it on record, and will do with every subsequent threat received.”
Sources from the police say that Guha informed the DCP about the threatening calls as his name was also mentioned in hit list of Amol Kale. Kale is the alleged mastermind of Gauri Lankesh’s murder, and it is also alleged that his diary had the names of prominent writers, rationalists and progressive thinkers, whom he had allegedly planned to kill.
