Bangalore: The water scarcity has not spared the villages including cities and towns in Karnataka. In spite of drinking water woes the rain harvesting in the metro has been unsuccessful.

The monsoon has set in with all the might across the state, while the lifelines – Tunga Bhadra, Cauvery rivers are overflowing. The rains are likely to lash in the catchment areas of Krishna river. However, the irony is that the metro has not witnessed any significant rainfall so far. The enlightened citizens think of ways to save water. The metro has over 10 lac houses out of which 6 lac are situated in key locations. The rainwater harvesting has been installed in 44,470 households. Its a fact that rainwater harvesting has not done in even 1 percent of households in heart of metro. The deadlines set by state authorities to disconnect drainage facility and to charge higher taxes on houses and apartments that have not installed rainwater harvesting facility has not worked at all. The water Authority has a creative plan to compulsory install rainwater harvesting facility in 1 lac households out of over 7.5 lac water connections.

Everyone can contribute for increasing underground water resources by installing rainwater harvesting facilities in their households.  Its a simple method and economical to install.  The rain water is wasted since that joins the drains. If the rain water is conserved for use or used to recharge the underground water resources there would not be dearth of water.
