Bangalore :The state government has lifted a three-year-old ban on rearing and selling Japanese quail, after a recent directive from the Centre removed Japanese quail from schedule IV of The Indian Wildlife Protection Act (TIWPA).
It’s official. Till recently, the state forest department had been booking people who reared and sold it, while neighboring Tamil Nadu allowed Japanese quail farming, including farming and trading.
Japanese quail(known as gowjala hakki locally) and its eggs are much in demand and traders faced much harassment on account of the state wide ban.
Many had applied to carry on this business, but the applications were deferred due to the law in place.
