Bengaluru: Protests continued over the Mekedatu dam row in the Cauvery delta region, with farmers bodies staging demonstrations in three towns of the region, demanding that the Central and state governments stop any move for new dams by Karnataka.

Protests were held in Kumbakonam, Tiruchirapalli and Tiruvarur, police said.

In Kumbakonam, 94 CPI(M) and CPI workers were detained when they tried to block the Chennai bound Cholan express, they said.
