Bengaluru: Two people, including a senior official from Rashtrapati Bhavan, have lost their mobile phones and other valuables at Capitol Hotel on Raj Bhavan Road in Bengaluru.
According to the police, the official phone of the protocol officer of the President of India was stolen from his room in Capitol Hotel. The police said Chhote Lal — a protocol officer who is part of the President’s entourage — had checked into room number 204 on Tuesday night after escorting the President to Raj Bhavan.
The police said that his phone was missing when woke up on Wednesday morning.
The police suspect that a thief had entered the room between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. “Fortunately, some important documents he was carrying were untouched. It looks like the thief was only interested in the Smartphone,” said a senior police officer.
Another guest reported that his mobile phone and wallet were missing when he woke up on Wednesday.
Police arrived a few minutes later and found his wallet outside the window of his room.
The guest — Akhilesh Kumar Yadav, a Gurugram-based engineer — said that Rs. 2,000 was missing.
The Vidhana Soudha police said that though the hotel had installed CCTV cameras, none had been fixed at the back of the building or in the corridors.
“We are questioning the staff, and have asked the hotel management to expand their CCTV coverage to secure their premises, as it is in a high-security zone,” a police officer said.
