Poll code violation: Police register nine FIRs

Bengaluru: The police have registered as many as nine first information reports (FIRs) for attempt to induce voters. The police have also set up check-posts in various part of Bengaluru and its outskirts.

The seized items include Rs. 86 lakh in cash, 10 saris, and 160 laptops. In all, cash of Rs. 1.12 crore, gold worth Rs. 49.17 lakh, and 18 saris have been seized so far, a release said.

According to officials, the gold in the form of small jewellery, including ear and nose studs, rings and dollars, was being transported in a car. When it was stopped at the check-post in Balepura village in Devanahalli for a random check, the consignment was found. When the driver was questioned for documents, he did not have any; an official said and added that a packet of eight saris was also seized.

A huge consignment of pressure cookers and tawas, bearing the photograph of Muniratna, Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA, was also seized on Saturday by the vigilance squad set up by the Election Commission. A total of 90 boxes of cookers and tawas were seized from a house in Lakshmidevi Nagar in Laggere. Four boxes of saris were also seized, the sources said.

The election officials also seized about 500 sewing machines meant to be distributed to voters in Mahadevapura. Officials, however, said they could not establish which party or candidate these boxes belonged to.

The Excise Department has seized 704 litres of liqour and booked 30 heinous cases.

Meanwhile, 27,025 firearms have been deposited and one firearm licence has been cancelled.

As many as 3,823 non-bailable warrants have been executed and 2,230 preventive actions have been initiated, said the press release from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
