Kasargod: Ugly face of political vendetta seems to have lifted its head again in Kannur. A gang that barged into the residence of a BJP activist hacked the latter to death, late on Monday night, at Pappiesery in Kannur district. This is touted to be an act of revenge owing to political reasons.

The deceased has been identified as Sujith (27), a resident of Aaroli Azad Colony.

A gang of ten men had gained entry into Sujith’s house and attacked Sujith. In the bid to save Sujith, his brother and mother have suffered severe injuries.

The seriously injured Sujith was rushed to hospital, but was declared brought dead.

Police sources have said that preliminary investigation shows that some CPM activists had committed this crime and the gang was led by CPM leader Venugopal. Eight people were taken into custody by police.

Tension gripped the region with the news of Sujith’s killing spreading around.

As a repercussion, the house of CPM leader and former zilla panchayat member, Venugopal, was attacked on Tuesday morning.

Security has been beefed up in the region.
