Bengaluru: The police have intensified the search to nab Geetha Vishnu, grand-son of liquor baron late Adikeshavulu Naidu, who escaped from Mallya Hospital on Friday.

“We have taken Dr Rajesh Naidu into custody and are inquiring his role in Geetha Vishnu’s escape from the Mallya Hospital,’’ Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) S. Sharanappa said here on Sunday.

Geetha Vishnu escaped from Mallya Hospital in a car along with Dr Rajesh Naidu in the wee hours of Friday. Rajesh Naidu is Vishnu’s brother-in-law (sister’s husband). The police are believed to have inquired Vishnu’s mother Dr Rajeshwari who is the director of Mallya Hospital, and father Srinivas about his whereabouts.

The police believe that the fugitive Vishnu is hiding at his sister Chethana’s house in Hyderabad.

“We have formed four police teams to nab the accused. The investigation is on, I cannot reveal more at this point of time,’’ the DCP said.

According to sources, Vishnu was admitted to Mallya hospital on Thursday and was under police custody. He had rammed his SUV to a Maruti Omni near the South End Circle injuring six people including three children on Thursday. The condition of all the six is said to be out of danger.

The police have seized a luxury vehicle, which rammed into a car and injured a family of six, including a child. Passers-by handed Vishnu over to the police.

The police recovered 110 grams of marijuana from the car and booked Vishnu under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, along with the charge of rash and negligent driving.

On Friday morning around 6.14 am he managed to escape from the emergency exit of the hospital with the help of another person who is suspected to be a hospital staffer.

The police have got CCTV footage from the hospital in which Vishnu was seen escaping with the help of a hospital staff member.

The police have filed a case against Vishnu for escaping while in police custody. Police teams visited his house near Ashoka Pillar, farmhouse in Whitefield as well as his home in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh in search of the fugitive.

CCB to probe

The police commissioner has handed over the case to the CCB. “As marijuana was found in the luxury vehicle, we need a detailed probe to track down the suppliers,” said Commissioner Suneel Kumar.
