Police inspector suspended for not registering Pocso case

Bengaluru: Malleswaram police inspector Venkatachalaiah was suspended on Thursday for allegedly not registering a case in relation to the sexual harassment of a minor.

Malini Krishnamoorthy, Additional Commissioner of Police, West said Inspector Venkatachalaiah had not registered a case or acted on a complaint by the father of a minor boy on Tuesday.

According to the complaint, Syed Ali, an AC technician, had gone to repair the air-conditioner in the house of the boy and allegedly sexually assaulted him.

It was said when the mother tried to file a complaint at the Malleswaram police station, she was allegedly told that such cases lead to a lot of trauma for the boy and could affect his studies. The inspector accepted their complaint but did not register the FIR.

He summoned Ali and let him off with a warning. The parents met senior police officers who conducted a probe and found the inspector guilty of negligence following which he was suspended.
