Bengaluru: In a heart-wrenching incident, a police constable from Udupi, who arrived in the city in search of his missing son, was able to return home with only his son’s ashes on Saturday, September 29.
Siddappa, a head constable attached to the Udupi town police station, arrived in Bengaluru city in search of his missing son, Goutham, who was a first-year BE student at an engineering college located in the Electronic City area.

He reached the Bommanahalli police station to share the details of his son who went missing on September 20 from the college hostel. At that time, police showed him the pictures of a dead body they had found on September 23 at Karunakarareddy lake, near Electronic City. It was the body of his son. The police then informed Siddappa that the final rites of the dead body had already been performed, assuming that it was an unclaimed body.
Siddappa, who came with one of his relatives named Murthy, returned to Udupi on Saturday evening, with his son’s ashes that the police handed to him. As news of the incident spread, the DG-IGP ordered an investigation into how the police performed the final rites of the boy without tracking down the parents and relatives.
