Pickpocket purchases flat in AP, lands in B’luru police net

Bengaluru: A resident of Anantpura in Andhra Pradesh, who was functioning as a pickpocket in Bengaluru was nabbed by the Basaveshwaranagar police after he attempted to purchase a flat using the money earned by selling stolen commodities.

Venkatesh (32), the accused was visiting the city twice or thrice a week. He used to pickpocket gold ornaments from the railway station, KSRTC, and BMTC bus terminus by standing in the queue, making using of the passenger rush. His other targets were the devotees visiting the temples.
Recently, he had bought a flat in his hometown by paying Rs. 85 lakhs in cash.

“When Basaveshwaranagar police was verifying a CCTV footage of a local temple, they found a person stealing gold chain of a devotee. When they sent the picture of the thief, Anantpur police shared his details as he was a rowdy-sheeter in a local police station. At the time of inquiry, he revealed his modus operandi,” informed a police officer.

“A total of 550 grams gold ornament worth of Rs.16 lakh has been seized from his flat,” police added.
