Bengaluru: One of the complaints against the universal Public Distribution System (PDS) run by the state government is that even though scheme is aimed at eradicating hunger, food products supplied through this system are either of sub standard quality or beneficiaries were duped over the quantity of food they were given. Here is one more example for this.
According to the sources in the state food and civil supplies department, recently several people have lodged complaint over how PDS beneficiaries were duped over the quantity of mung bean supplied under the scheme.
According to the officials, every month state government is distributing a kilo gram of mung bean to all the ration card holders at subsidised rate. A kilo gram of mung bean is sold at Rs. 90 to Rs.100 in the open market. But under the PDS system a kilo gram of mung bean is sold for just Rs. 33. But now few beneficiaries allege that they are duped by the suppliers because instead of one kg, they are supplied with packets that weigh only 700 gms.
However, the officials concerned have said that the matter would be taken up seriously and action will also be taken to rectify the mistake.
