Bengaluru: As many as 3,834 cases for violating traffic rules were booked in the West Division by Bengaluru traffic police in just two hours on Thursday, October 27.
The traffic police officials also stated that they booked 342 autorickshaws for various traffic violations during a special drive conducted between 6.30 am and 8.30 am.
The Garden City has 64.84 lakh vehicles on which an average of 70 lakh cases are being booked for violating traffic rules every year. The number of cases booked by traffic police increased from 74.36 lakh in 2014 to 76.26 lakh in 2015. Till September, 66.85 lakh cases were booked by the traffic police of which 17.37 lakh cases are related to wrong parking and 13.65 lakh for riding without helmet. According to traffic police records, the fine collected has increased from `65.92 crore in 2014 to `70.44 crore in 2015. Till September, they collected `47.55 crore.
Many motorists have blamed poor infrastructure facilities for traffic violations including parking space. There are several no-parking sign boards, but nobody says where to park vehicles, motorists lament.
